Today, Humans of AI publishes long-form Conversations and live Field Notes with the people building, deploying, and living with AI. Over time, what we learn may grow into education, tools, and support for human-centered builders—but only as real needs emerge.
Principles behind the work.
These principles shape the questions we ask, the stories we tell, and any future work we choose to pursue.
AI should amplify human dignity, not replace it
Technology should make people more capable, creative, and connected while preserving the judgment, agency, and care that make human contribution irreplaceable.
The human side needs a home
Benchmarks and products move quickly. The voices, choices, doubts, and breakthroughs of the people living through the shift deserve a durable record.
Curiosity over certainty
The best conversations leave room for uncertainty, complexity, and changing your mind. We would rather ask a better question than force a tidy answer.
Flourishing takes practice
People need more than tool updates. They need judgment, confidence, language, examples, and communities that help them use AI without losing themselves.
The most important story in AI is still a human one.

I'm Alex Chao, the founder of Humans of AI. My work has taken me from building self-driving cars, developing open-source agentic systems, and doing frontier-model research. It has given me an insider's view of how AI works, and more importantly the people behind turning science fiction into reality.
I started Humans of AI to make sure we amplify those voices building AI and making use of it in their day to day lives. Through the podcast and newsletter, I speak with builders, researchers, operators, and thinkers working through what AI changes and what should remain unmistakably human.
I'm especially interested in judgment, trust, human agency, and the choices that shape technology.
Welcome to Humans of AI.
Built in sequence.
Not all at once.
Stories is the work today. Everything beyond it is a direction—not a claim. Each new expression should grow from needs we can see, people we can serve, and proof we have earned.
